Module 3: Embodied Anatomy

Anatomy Through Discernment

How do I teach the body I see rather than the pose I imagine?

Module Overview

A focused path from study to embodied practice.

Advanced anatomy is not the search for one perfect shape. It is the practice of seeing the person in front of you, listening to the intelligence of their body, and making choices that support agency, function, access, and sustainable practice.

You will move beyond memorization into observation: exploring breath, structure, movement continuums, compensation, consent, and the many ways a practice can be adapted without losing its purpose.

What to Expect

Use yourself as the first laboratory

Explore movement, breath, sensation, and organization before observing or teaching another person.

See function, not conformity

Study range, orientation, support, pace, and purpose rather than forcing bodies toward one visual endpoint.

Teach with agency

Practice trauma-informed language, consent, options, and feedback that keep the student authoritative in their experience.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Observe movement descriptively without diagnosing or imposing a universal ideal.
  • Adapt poses and sequences for diverse bodies through range, orientation, support, pace, and purpose.
  • Use balanced-action and movement-continuum inquiry to support responsive organization.
  • Use trauma-informed language and consent practices that preserve student agency.

How You Complete It

Complete the pre-module lessons and readings, embodied movement map, observation and adaptation labs, and the applied teaching evidence assigned for the module.
